How To Get Started With Unity

Unity (or Unity3D as it previously was known) is a game engine that has now become a real-time development platform. If you ever wanted to learn how to develop games, Unity should definitely be your top pick!

Lets start by getting Unity installed, shall we.

Step 1:

Unity.com Homepage

Head over unity.com and click on “Get started.”

Step 2:

Pricing for Teams

Click on the “Individual” tab

Step 3:

Individual Plans

Now click on “Get Started” under the Personal section

Step 4:

Unity Store

You’ll be brought to the Unity Store where you can click the “Start here” under First-time users.

Step 5:

Unity’s ToS for Personal or Student License

Agree to the Terms and the Unity Hub Setup file will be downloaded.

Step 6:

Install and run the Unity Hub.

Step 7:

Once the Unity Hub is installed, you’ll need to login into a Unity account.

To do this click on the little person icon on the top right, and select “Sign In”

Now just sign in or create an account.

Step 8:

Click “Activate New License” and…

Select Unity Personal and which ever secondary option fits you.

Step 9:

Click the back button on the top left of the window and go to “Installs” on the left nav. Click Add.

Step 10:

Select your version of Unity.

Add Microsoft Visual Studio Community, if you don’t already have it, and any other modules you’d like to install and click Next.

Finally, you’ll be asked to agree to some terms for some selected modules and once you do. The installation will begin.

CONGRATULATIONS! You’ve finished your first step on your road to game development.
